PICTURE: #7 IN FOURTEEN ACTS
SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEW:
JAMES AGUIAR TALKS ABOUT HIS 7th OUTFIT
What items did you use to compose this particular outfit?
Nina Ricci customized jacket
Brooks Brothers bow tie
Helmut Lang pants
Donald J. Pliner shoes
How did you arrive at the decision to compose such an outfit?
I designed this look for my partner Mark’s black and white ball. I hand sewed all of the pearls and crystals and designed and made the mask myself. I wanted to look as if I stepped off of a stage designed by Cecil Beaton.
Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
I compose everything ahead of time!
On a scale of 10, how pleased are you with this composition/outfit?
I will give this outfit a 10. This look represents all of the aspects of my personality…complete with the mystery and allure of the mask.
What roles do color, the fit, and integrity of fabric play in this particular outfit? I love anything that shines or sparkles.
Its funny…the more theatrical and embellished the more comfortable I am…if I had to wear a blue shirt and khakis all day I think I would die…that would be awkward for me.
How soon would you repeat/wear this same outfit again?
Anytime there is a black and white ball…which in New York is more often than you think!!
There is perhaps a spiritual, emotional, intellectual or psychological aspect to the what/how we dress. What is your personal experience in relation to this outfit?
I will always think of a magical night with my partner when I wear this. It’s a look that has a life and history attached to it. Even when it’s on a hanger it speaks to me.
