SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEW:
LUCIA HWONG GORDON
TALKS ABOUT HER 6th OUTFIT

What items did you use to compose this particular outfit?
Manish Arora coat from India
Dior over the knee boots
Black sequin leggings from Alice and Olivia
Blouse from boutique in Mumbai
Earrings from street fair in Venice Beach
California-blue topaz ring from Istanbul.

How did you arrive at the decision to compose such an outfit?
I
t began with falling in love with the Manish Arora’s velvet embroidered coat in Mumbai. I discovered the blouse at another boutique a few days later. Instead of wearing it with an Indian skirt, I decided to make the look more downtown New York with the over the knee black Dior boots and sequin leggings.

Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
I composed the outfit when I returned from India. I tried it with leather pants first, but went with the sequin pants which picked up on theme of the colorful sequins and exquisite beading on the coat and blouse.

On a scale of 10, how pleased are you with this composition/outfit?
10 – Makes me feel like a New York Maharani

What roles do color, the fit, and integrity of fabric play in this particular outfit?
I love playing with the jewel tones and textures of the Indian palette and offset it against the black sequin pants and leather boots.  I enjoy all the sensual textures. The vivid green color and design of the silk lining juxtaposed with rich red velvet and gold embroidery always makes me smile with its audacity.

How soon would you repeat/wear this same outfit again?
I wore this first to Geoffrey Bradfield’s book party downtown. I would wear it to the ballet or a fun party with creative friends.
There is perhaps a spiritual, emotional, intellectual or psychological aspect to the what/how we dress. What is your personal experience in relation to this outfit?
It is my love of travel and discovering a special piece of clothing which embodies the aesthetic or mood of that country or city. The colors and textures of the coat and blouse has the richness of my experience of India, reflecting the magnificent culture and colorful people.  My New York style black leg wear and boots root these experiences to my life here!
