SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEW:
PATRICK McDONALD TALKS ABOUT HIS 3rd OUTFIT

What items did you use to compose this particular outfit?
My fabulous giant top hat is by Rod Keenan.  My fitted frock coat in muted black and brown plaid and black trousers are by Paul Smith.  My crisp white french cuff shirt and black tie, tied as a bow are from XOOS in Paris.  The black cap toe patent evening slippers are by Pierre Hardy.

How did you arrive at the decision to compose such an outfit?
Wearing evening attire is really my favorite way to dress; I love opulent fabric even for the day.  I was really in the mood to dress to the nines; I take reference from old Hollywood movies.  This outfit reminds me of a costume from the movie GiGi, it would have been something to wear to Maxim’s in Paris during the Belle Époque era.

Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
This was a well thought out ensemble. I gave it much thought as I was inspired by the movies from the golden age of Hollywood.

Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
This is one of my favorite evening outfits but I am always evolving.

What roles does color, fit and material play in this particular outfit?
Color does not really play into this outfit.  I prefer luxuries materials such as velvet, satin and silk in somber colors for evening. Fit is also very important, well tailored clothes are key in all my looks.

How soon would you repeat/wear this same outfit again?
I would not wear it very often, only for special occasions but that could for me could be everyday.

Personally, I believe in sartorial therapy—in the sense that there is a spiritual, an emotional, intellectual or a psychological aspect to what/how we dress. What is your personal experience in relation to this outfit?
This outfit brings me back to a time I sometimes long for or a time period that I want to escape to in my imagination. Its all fantasy—makes me feel like I am from a different time.
