SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEW:
SOMERS FARKAS TALKS ABOUT HER 5th OUTFIT
What items did you use to compose this particular outfit?
This v-neck silk jersey dress is from the spring 2012 collection of Paola Quadretti –Paola is a Florentine designer, who has opened a showroom on east 61st street, and boutique on Madison Avenue. To complement the Florentine Iris Garden print, I chose patent flesh Manolo’s and a beige crocodile clutch from Nancy Gonzales.
How did you arrive at the decision to compose such an outfit?
The Italian artisans have an undeniable sense of color and design, and Paola’s fabrics, too are from the finest Italian mills. As in nature, beauty can be subtle as well as vibrant, and I chose accessories, which would complement, and NOT compete with, the unique, fine colors reminiscent of Florence’s beautiful iris gardens.
Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
I chose this outfit to accompany my husband to a spring luncheon, on Long Island, in support of a political candidate. Knowing it was in a home, indoors (and thereby not necessitate flat, or square heels), I was able to plan.
In a scale of 10, how pleased are you with this composition/outfit?
What roles do color, the fit, and integrity of fabric play in this particular outfit?
The color, fit and integrity of the fabric played a significant role in my decision. Because this luncheon was specific, I preferred an outfit that was feminine, comfortable, tasteful, and not intimidating. The softness of the silk jersey, together with the v-neck, enables a shapely silhouette, and a fluid drape that is apparent either sitting or standing.
How soon would you repeat/wear this same outfit again?
I will again wear the outfit, next spring, though with a different audience.
There is perhaps a spiritual, emotional, intellectual or psychological aspect to the what/how we dress. What is your personal experience in relation to this outfit?
I have long believed that true style is effortless— a subtle grandeur without pretension. Paola holds my belief as part of her own; she too believes that every woman is beautiful, and her clothes complement and enhance a woman’s body and inner strength. I feel oh so chic – and oh so WOMAN—in her things. As well, the outfit was well received, and our friend’s campaign was a success…perhaps the next luncheon will be in the State Dining Room one day soon
