special guest/TZIPORAH SALAMON TALKS ABOUT HER 11th OUTFIT: #11 in 16 acts

What items did you use to compose this particular outfit?
Vintage embroidered jacket from Eastern Europe bought at the pier show
Vintage paisley scarf bought at the pier show
Vintage embroidered shawl bought at the pier show Cashmere knickers that I had made
Men’s Victorian needle-point slippers bought at the pier show
Vintage Russian velvet embroidered cap bought at an antique shop on E 57th Street that was going out of business  Contemporary socks bought at Barney’s.

How did you arrive at the decision to compose such an outfit?
The outfit started with the jacket that I found at the pier show.  I loved the deep green color and the embroidered flowers.   I knew I would team it with knickers that I then had made.
Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
This outfit took several months to come together.  After I bought the jacket, I went to the pier show looking for a hat for it and instead found the shawl and the shoes.  I kept looking at the flowers on the jacket and knew that I had seen them before.  Sure enough, looking through my hatboxes I found the Russian cap that I had bought years ago with the same embroidered flowers.

On a scale of 10, how pleased are you with this composition/outfit?
I would give this a 9.

What roles do color, the fit, and integrity of fabric play in this particular outfit?
Because the jacket was so small and intricate I knew I would keep it masculine and pair it with knickers.  I continued the green of the jacket with the knickers, shawl, scarf and the green shoes.  The departure was the hat because it is black but because it’s embroidered with the same red flowers and because of the rich velvet texture, it works.

How soon would you repeat/wear this same outfit again?
I wear this outfit in the fall whenever I want to feel creative and artistic.

There is perhaps a spiritual, emotional, intellectual or psychological aspect to the what/how we dress. What is your personal experience in relation to this outfit?
This outfit draws much attention because of its fine detailed work.  The shoes alone create a stir.  I have to be ready to engage with the world when I wear this outfit and feel confident and self-assured.

I love all of your outfits I have seen so far. You obviously do a lot of creative work at home too. What would you wear then? Something more simple?
