PICTURE: #9 IN SIXTEEN ACTS
SPECIAL GUEST INTERVIEW:
TZIPORAH SALAMON TALKS ABOUT HER 9th OUTFIT
What items did you use to compose this particular outfit?
Early 1900’s silk Chinese pajamas bought from a vintage dealer
1920’s ivory beads bought at the flea market
Vintage earrings bought at Patina
Vintage flower hat bought at a thrift store in Washington DC Vintage ivory bracelets and ring
How did you arrive at the decision to compose such an outfit?
I fell in love with the pajamas. They are the focal point of the outfit.
Did you compose this outfit spontaneously or was it planned ahead of time?
I had all the elements except the hat, which I found a year later.
On a scale of 10, how pleased are you with this composition/outfit?
8 – it’s still evolving. The jewelry is not perfect.
What roles do color, the fit, and integrity of fabric play in this particular outfit?
The richness of the silk is beyond compare, as is the sheen. It is so well made and the embroidery so exquisite that it really does not need much else. The fuchsia flowers of the hat pick up the fuchsia flowers of the embroidery and the sheen of the shoes picks up the sheen of the silk pajamas.
How soon would you repeat/wear this same outfit again?
I wear this outfit several times during the summer.
There is perhaps a spiritual, emotional, intellectual or psychological aspect to the what/how we dress. What is your personal experience in relation to this outfit?
This outfit is both immensely comfortable and simple and yet divinely rich and intricate. I love the way the silk feels against my body and I feel very feminine and sensual wearing it. I love the flowers in my hair and the flowers embroidered throughout.
